Variations from two different artists utilising their tools to create synth-based works. Whilst Solvognen crafts from his modular array, chaz dolo records his works to two battered four-tracks.

Fuck me, there’s some great music around at the moment. And not enough hours in the day to write about it all.
This, a split mini-tape on Disco Insolence that slipped out a week or two ago.
Solvognen.
Dig this dude. Think I was rabbiting on about him last year on either the old Posterous or Tumblr blog – I forget which and both are gone now, anyway. Solvognen’s got a v. promising career ahead of him – if he even cares about such things (and I hope he don’t) – he’s still nicely under radar at the moment; a few months or a year out from the recent (and, er, unfortunate) cred-wrecking / cringe-inducing “Outsider House” piece. *Phew* Close call, etc.
Two trax, here. The first (“Lysergic Alabaster”) is illushly lilting / damaged Exotic – an audio-Instagram snapshot of the lushly verdant and 'exotic' – so hyperreal fake it hurts, but in the most beautiful way imaginable; yes, yes… it swiiings and sways slowly like a breeze-shifted palm-tree in a Malibou-n-coke dream-advert. It’s like going on holiday inside Clam Casino’s laptop. Endless azure Pantone skies, VCO envelope slowly opening like a giant bepearl’d bivalve on the bubble-smeared coral-reef of the imagination. The outro somehow captures – faded Polaroid / 4th-gen Xerox stylee – the inner essence of a 4 second sequence on Ashra’s New Age of the Earth, but don’t let that put you off.
Second trak (“Bismuth Vapour”) – short and sweet, to be sure – spirals out on a ruff inner-orbit of my ear-bones – a noisy, slow reverse camera-shutter sound that uncoils under a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it piano piece. A link, a filler, fade-out, but I’m convinced. A star is born!
Chaz Dolo.
(“OOO”): A slow upwards-slidin’ synth-siren lead-in takes us into a mumbled Youtube voicescape and thence to Nochexxx conspiracy territory. Saucer Country. Crunchy 8-Bit-Hop drums beat a paranoid tattoo-riddim that underpins a roiling feedback-echoloo-oo-oop, scratch samples and a Vangelisy-sounding mini-synth-motif. Sounds crumble down into the consistency of dry biscuits; modulated string-pads slide past into nervous, helium-voiced C. Saganisms and a phaaat squarewave bassline. Niiice.

More seamless links, this here cassette release we found our way to via Laica’s face book page. A split tape release no less that’s strictly limited to just – 15 copies. Put out by disco insolence – their first as it happens – this release features a total of three cuts – 2 from Solvognen and one from Chaz Dolo. Alas no information on either except to say that as far as I can detect both hail from somewhere in the UK. and quite frankly if you see this release loitering anywhere then grab it without pause, question or second thought. Why you might well ask, in truth because it features two strangely acute artists both of whom – if these tracks are anything to judge by – deserve closer investigation. ‘lysergic alabaster’ is the first offering from Solvognen – a little beauty tripwired in all manner of celestial flotillas and lounge cosmically which if we didn‘t know better we‘d liken to an uber chilled and playful like dub drilled lunar waltzing Isan jabbed with seducing disco steroids. The all to brief ’bismuth vapour’ on the other hand is a more sedate affair, a lonesome key canter wallows away to a sepia trimmed framing upon a whirring pulsar, very introspective and sorrowing if you ask me. As to Chaz Dolo, what can I say about ’000’ – slightly disturbing, a little on the freaky side if truth be told, heavily sedated and wired to a warping matrix the likes of which you’d have to dig out your casino vs. japan and kimonophonic platters for comparison for this little honey skips, hops and jumps through an array of genre bending styles to include a smoked out selection of mutant futuro hip hop grooves spliced with glitch gouged trip hopping beats, sci-fi fanfares and minimalist blip core dub electronica. Well cool.

Next up some more modular synth on tape madness. Disco Insolence is a new cassette label and the first release on it is called Split. Limited to just 15 physical copies, it features two tracks by Solvognen and one by Chaz Dolo. This is a slice of gameboy psyche-hop from it.
